Meridian Series Camera Testing and Evaluation System

It is capable of simultaneously evaluating the alignment and focusing performance of lenses and cameras in single-frame shooting. The Meridian series of instruments, through its unique Static Target Projector (STP) and Focusing Target Projector (FTP), can generate a field of view of virtual object targets within a compact space, while simulating application scenarios involving long distances and wide fields of view, thereby testing and evaluating the optical performance of cameras. For stray light measurement issues, Meridian has introduced solutions for BrightField and SunField.

  • Product Application

    It is primarily used for testing various types of new wide-angle cameras, including but not limited to short focal length and small aperture cameras such as mobile phones, car cameras, drone surveillance systems, personal recording devices, and webcams.

    The testing items include image quality testing, MTF testing, focusing testing, glare spread function (GSF) testing, stray light testing, and veiling glare index (VGI) testing, etc., to meet the needs of different customers for camera performance testing in production, research and development, and other aspects.


  • Technical Features

    ·High accuracy of target projectors: Static target projectors (STPs) utilize precision-machined components and proprietary assembly techniques to ensure precise alignment between the target and the outer cylinder; focused target projectors (FTPs) employ patented drive solutions and linear output encoders to achieve high-precision positioning.

    ·Flexible light source control: Most products allow for linear adjustment of light source brightness, and offer a variety of color temperature and wavelength options.

    ·Configuration customization: Each product can be customized according to customer needs. For example, measurement stations such as Starfield, Sunfield, and Brightfield can be designed based on the type of camera being tested and testing requirements, with target projector layouts and parameters tailored accordingly. For STPs and FTPs, different focal lengths, apertures, and target patterns can be selected.

    ·Reducing the impact of stray light: The Sol Projector controls stray light through special designs, such as interchangeable aperture mechanisms, controlled illumination range, careful shading, and special coatings; the Sunfield and Brightfield measuring tables reduce stray light through structural design and high absorptivity coatings, respectively, as well as integrated light traps.

  • Meridian Starfield Test Bench

    Meridian Starfield is a positioning combination of multiple target projectors that simultaneously project test targets through a set field of view angle, collectively covering the field of view of the camera under test (DUT). It is a compact and high-precision solution suitable for camera testing at the end of the production line or for active calibration of camera components in mass production.

    The star field test bench is designed according to specific customer requirements, and the target projector used can be equipped with either a static target projector (STP) or a focused target projector (FTP).

    In cases where the camera lens being tested exhibits significant distortion, Optikos can perform pre-distortion processing on off-axis target designs to compensate for the distortion in the lens.

    The Meridian Starfield test bench can be equipped with Meridian Prime software for image analysis and processing. This software possesses the following functions:

    ·Control all connected target projectors

    ·With a single frame image, horizontal and vertical MTF measurements can be performed simultaneously for multiple field points

    ·Customize the region of interest for sampling edge images

    ·Camera line of sight (LOS) and tilt angle relative to the camera housing (the mounting base of the camera under test needs to be calibrated with the star field)

    ·Static image analysis or multi-image batch processing

    ·Conduct near real-time image analysis by transferring image files through shared folders

    ·Real-time video interface for specific video formats and camera manufacturers

    ·Customized versions can be made according to requirements to accommodate customers' unique video formats

  • Merdian Flex automatic camera tester

    Merdian Flex is a flexible camera testing platform, suitable for cameras with small pupils and wide fields of view. Its core component is a high-speed, high-precision robotic arm, which can flexibly place projection targets at any designated field of view point under various instrument configurations, catering to both research and development as well as production testing needs.


    Technical features of Merdian Flex:

    ·The test source is a Focused Target Projector (FTP), which can easily switch between different types of FTPs to accommodate various test objects.

    ·A closed door with a lock provides a dark environment for testing

    ·Measure the horizontal and vertical MTF, as well as the focus MTF, of the entire field of view

    ·Measure inherent parameters (focal length, geometric distortion coefficient)

    ·A standard base used to secure the camera under test, compatible with customized camera mounts and electronic interfaces for the camera under test.

  • Merdian Sunfield GSF Test Bench

    Merdian Sunfield provides a fixed arrangement of bright objects (Sol projectors) on a black background for glare spread function (GSF) measurements in a production environment. Similar to the Starfield measuring station, the Sunfield is customized according to each customer's specific requirements and can be designed to accommodate one or multiple types of cameras under test.


    The characteristics of the solar field platform include:

    ·A rigid, opaque structure secures the Sol projector at the desired field of view angle. If necessary, the Sol projector can be easily detached from the daytime test bench.

    ·The camera under test is placed through the bottom of the test bench. The quasi-kinematic design mechanism on the base helps to correctly position the object under test.

    ·The structural surface within the field of view of the device under test is coated with a high-absorptivity layer to reduce reflected and scattered light.

    ·The lighting of each projector can be remotely controlled individually, allowing for testing at one field point at a time.

    ·A configurable pneumatic shutter can be used to block the unused projector, further reducing scattered light.

  • Merdian Brightfield VGI Test Bench

    Merdian Brightfield provides a fixed arrangement of black targets on a uniform white background for the measurement of Veiling Glare Index (VGI) in production environments. Similar to day fields and star fields, the position and size of the black targets in the bright field are customized and can be designed to accommodate one or multiple types of test objects.


    Characteristics of the bright field platform:

    ·The integrating hemisphere is illuminated by multiple controllable white LED light sources to ensure uniformity.

    ·Install high-efficiency light traps of various aperture sizes at locations defined by the customer.

    ·Provide a mechanical interface specified by the customer on the tested camera port.

    ·An optional integrated photometer is available.

    ·According to the requirements, the optical trap can be disassembled and replaced with a coated port plug.
